Saint-Petersburg is a big and creative city with special bar culture. Literally on every corner, you can find a chill place where you can eat, drink wine, and have breakfast. Every local has its list of the best cafes and restaurants, depending on taste preferences and the area. So, yes, this is my list of top-15 places where to eat in St. Petersburg.

Saint-Petersburg coffee places

Для меня очень важно в каждом городе найти то самое место, где можно было бы посидеть с красивым видом или в красивом интерьере, выпить кофе и почитать книжку. И в Питере таких мест 3.

For me during travelling it’s very important to find the place where you can enjoy good coffee together with spectacular view or at least nice interior. In St. Petersburg there are 3 such places.

1. Coffee place “Bolshe coffee”

It’s translated as “more coffee”. The coffee shop is located in a historical grotto in Alexander Park near the Gorkovskaya metro station and Peter and Paul fortress. Here is very cozy. In winter, you sit inside the grotto in a large armchair, and in summer there is a terrace with tables at the fountain. Here they have one of the best coffee in the city, delicious cheesecakes, and cacao with marshmallows.

2. Time-cafe Ziferburg

This is such an art space where you pay only for the time spent in the cafe: 3 rubles/minute. Sweets, coffee, tea, and cocoa are available to you in unlimited quantities. After the 4th hour of stay and until the end of the day – admission is free. Ziferburg is located in a historic building on the Fontanka embankment with stunning views of the Mikhailovsky Castle.

In the cafe, there are board games, books, and are regularly held events: there is a reading club, movie watching days, workshops, language conversation clubs. You can check the schedule here.

Adress: Fontanka river embankment 20.

3. Time-cafe Freedom

The art space is located in the building of the historical palace and is divided into 6 thematic halls. Passing from room to room, the guest is walking from era to era. High society salon of the late 19th, library, lounge area, gaming zone, etc. In one of the halls, there is a coffee shop with 22 types of coffee, 20 types of leaf tea and an extensive seasonal menu. And in another – a bar with a cocktail list and menu.

Here you can also rent one or more rooms for events and photo shooting. And of course, events, parties, and movie screenings are often held here. Check the information here.

Admission price depends on the chosen option: it starts from 1 ruble/minute. Tea, coffee, other refreshments are free in unlimited quantity.

Adress: Kazanskaya ul., 7

Saint-Petersburg restaurants with a view

Saint-Petersburg is the most beautiful city in the world. It is simply impossible to come here and not to have dinner with a view.

1. The Flying Dutchman

This is a real ship – a three-masted Dutch sailboat. Inside there are 3 restaurants with exquisite interiors, original cuisine, and wow views of the Neva river, the Winter Palace, and the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. In summer, the restaurant has a terrace directly on the water.

Prices are not cheap, but worth it. Follow the link for site with a menu.

Adress: Mytninskaya nab. 6, a ship at the Exchange Bridge (st. m. Sportivnaya)

2. Terrassa

Terrassa – is one of the restaurants of the Ginza Project chain. There is an open kitchen (that is, guests can watch the cooking process), a European menu and simply fantastic views of the Kazan Cathedral.

Follow the link for restaurant website and menu.

Adress: 3A, Kazanskaya st., Saint–Petersburg

3. Makaronniki

This is an Italian restaurant. It is located on the roof of a business center with stunning views of Petrogradka. The main hall is located under a glass dome, and in the summer on the remaining space the roof opens a terrace where you can not only eat but also lie with a cocktail sunbathing.

Adress: prospect Dobrolyubova 16 k. 2

4. Mansarda

Another restaurant of the Ginza Project. It’s located in the attic (“mansarda” is a Russian word for attic) of the high historical building. In winter, you sit by the panoramic window and enjoy the view of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. And in summer there is a terrace.

Adress: 3, Pochtamtskaya st.

5. Korushka

Korushka – is the name of the fish (smelt) that in April swims in the waters of St. Petersburg to spawn. So every April we eat a lot of this fish.

This is not my favorite restaurant about the food, but one of the best in terms of location. Korushka is located directly on Zayachiy Island, close to the wall of the Peter and Paul Fortress. This is one of the best places in the city to witness the Palace Bridge opening. Another advantage is that only restaurant customers can be on the island after its closure.

Adress: Zayachiy Island, 3 Petropavlovskaya Krepost

Follow the link for restaurant website and menu.

6. Sky&Wine Bar

There is a large selection of wine and snacks and a view of the rooftops of St. Petersburg. Awesome place.

Adress: 18 Pirogova alley

7. Schastye U Isaakiya Bar & Restaurant

“Schastye” translates as “happiness”. It is a chain of restaurants around the city. But I am talking about exactly one place – Schastye restaurant near the Saint Isaac’s Cathedral.

No, this restaurant is not located on the roof. However, it has one of the best views of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. Also the prices in Schastye are slightly lower than in other view restaurants.

Adress: Malaya Morskaya St., 24

Other great places to eat in Saint-Petersburg

1. Cococo

This is a super Instagram place thanks to the dessert “my mother’s favorite flower” (on the photo). In general, Cococo is a restaurant of Russian cuisine. Here you can order tea in a glass with a cup holder (as in Russian trains) and porridge from an ax (as in Russian fairytales).

Follow the link for restaurant website and menu.

Adress: Voznesensky prospect, 6

2. Probka

Probka is an Italian restaurant owned by the famous restaurateur Aram Mnatsakanov. It has very tasty pasta and fairly high prices. But this is really one of the best places to eat Italian cuisine in St. Petersburg.

Adress: Zoologicheskiy Pereulok, 2-4

Where to eat cheap in Saint-Petersburg

Another list of places where you can eat tasty and budget in St. Petersburg.

1. Bushe Bakery

This is a chain of cafes and bakeries. And it’s a pure St. Petersburg brand. They even shot their movie about the city. Such cafes there are in all areas of the city. However, I am pointing the one special place – a cafe with a view of the Kazan Cathedral. Here you can have a cheap lunch, eat delicious sandwiches and good pastries.

Adress: Naberezhnaya Kanala Griboedova, 18-20.

4. Pyshechnaya

“Pyshki” is a Russian version of donuts or churros (more or less). It’s simply a piece of dough with sugar powder.

The most popular place to try pyshki is the small tiny cage near the DLT shopping center. There still lives the atmosphere of Soviet times with 20-century interior. Instead of napkins, there are pieces of paper. The menu consists of donuts and USSR style coffee (which is powder coffee with condensed milk). One pyshka costs 10 rubles here. Coffee – 13 rubles.

Adress: Bolshaya Konyushennaya St., 25

5. Teremok

Teremok is a chain of fast food cafes. They are all over the city.

Teremok is the best place to try Russian pancakes. Also, you can try a few Russian meals as buckwheat, and semolina porridge. And you can have a very budget lunch.
