How to get to Koh Phangan from Koh Samui? The easiest way to get to Koh Phangan

As I mentioned before, the distance between the islands is 12 km, so if you get your flight ticket to Koh Samui, it’s going to be the fastest way to get to Koh Phangan, however, the most expensive one as well, as the flights from Bangkok to Samui cost more than 100 euros one way.

How to get to Koh Phangan from Surat Thani?

Surat Thani airport is the closest airport to the Phangan island on the mainland of Thailand. To get to the island you have to take a bus to Donsac pier and then a ferry to Koh Phangan. The whole trip will take around 4.5 hours and 15 dollars. The easiest way would be to book a 500 bats transfer Bus+ferry. You can do it here.

By the way, Surat Thani airport is an international airport, so there are few direct flights from Surat Thani to other countries, like Malaysia or Singapore.

How to get to Koh Phangan from Bangkok?

By air: Take a flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani (starts with 30 dollars) or Koh Samui. Then follow the instructions above.

Bus + ferry. The cheapest route. Take an overnight bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani. It departs around 6 pm and arrives at Surat Thani the next morning. Then take a bus to Donsak and ferry to Phangan. Press HERE, to check the timetables and to organize the trip.

Train + ferry. The overnight train from Bangkok to Surathani is a bit more expensive than the bus option but way more comfortable. Then again bus to Donsak and ferry to Phangan. Press HERE, to check the timetables and to organize the trip.

How to get around the island of Koh Phangan?

By scooter. The most popular way to get around the island. Bike rentals on Koh Phangan are literally situated in every corner. Also, it is the cheapest way. 24-hours rental will cost you around 8 dollars. Riding a bike skill can seriously help you in the trip around Koh Phangan, being the onliest way to reach many places on the island.

By Songthaew taxi. The option you can choose in case of having fear of riding a bike. The prices are quite high. To get from Haad Rin to Thong Sala you will have to pay around 5 dollars for each person.
