Stuibenfall waterfall – the most beautiful waterfall 73 km away from Innsbruck

Stuibenfall is the oldest and highest waterfall in Tyrol (159 meters). This is a definite must-visit place if you are traveling through the Tyrolean Alps or stay in Innsbruck. A visit to the waterfall will take about 2 hours if you hike from the lower level. And about 30 minutes if you come to the top by car just to have the upper view. The trail is brand new and comfortable, suitable even for children. And it’s free. The only thing you have to pay for is parking.

How to get to the Stuibenfall waterfall?

The best way is of course by car. In the navigator you have to look for Stuibenfall or Ötzi-Dorf.

If public transport is the only option than firstly take a train from Innsbruck to Ötztal Bahnhof and from there you need a bus to Umhausen.

Visit the Stuibenfall waterfall

So, as we found out, you better go to the waterfall by car. Stuibenfall has two parking lots at once: at the top and at the bottom. If you just want to look at the waterfall from the observation deck, then come to the Bischoffsplatz parking lot. From there, it’s just a couple of minutes walk to the upper viewpoint of the waterfall.

But I highly recommend the second option – to hike to the top of the waterfall. To do this, you need to park your car in the parking lot at Ötzi-Dorf. Parking for the day costs 5 euros. Nearby there are free toilets and a small cafe.

From the parking lot begins a wide path towards the forest. At first, you can’t even see the waterfall. But after some time you will see forest streams, and the trail will start to rise.

And finally, the waterfall will appear. The first observation deck is the least beautiful, so it can be passed by.

By the way along the trail are placed benches. I think it’s an amazing idea to give people a chance to relax and take a breath with a beautiful view.

The next viewpoint offers a great view not only of the waterfall, but also of the village of Umhausen. Unfortunately, the photo does not fit both species.

The next stage of the path is a staircase and a suspension bridge.

As you get closer to the waterfall, the views become more beautiful.

The entire journey one way up took us about 75 minutes. Having risen, you can still wander and admire the waterfall from different sides, and then begin the descent. The way down took us 45 minutes.

By the way, there is another way to conquer the waterfall – rock climbing. There is a special track for lovers of such activity.

What to see near the Stuibenfall waterfall?

Ice Q Restaurant and Museum 007 Elements

40 km from the waterfall in the city of Soelden, or rather on the top of a mountain above Soelden, at an altitude of 3048 meters, there is a place where they filmed the penultimate Bond series – the film Spectrum. Remember the footage from the clinic on the snowy mountaintop where Bond met Madeleine? Well, this is the place.

A futuristic building with panoramic windows is actually a luxurious restaurant. And in honor of the film, a museum dedicated to Bondiana was built next to the restaurant.

We were both in the restaurant and in the museum, and I wrote about this experience in the following article: Ice Q restaurant and “007 Elements” museum – a must-visit place in Tyrol

Aqua Dome

A popular spa complex with outdoor warm pools and mountain views. It is only 17 km from the waterfall by car, so these two locations can easily fit in one trip.

Where to eat near Stuibenfall?

After a walk in the fresh air, you will really want to try Austrian cuisine, sitting in a colorful outdoor restaurant with a beautiful view. This is where we had lunch. The restaurant is called Gasthaus Seehäusl and is located on the banks of the Piburger See. It’s only 10 minutes drive from the falls. The tables are located right on the shore of the lake, the menu serves traditional dishes, and the waiters are dressed in national costumes.

Carefully! Meals are gigantic.

To get to the restaurant, you need to park your car near the lake and walk along the path around the lake to the opposite shore. A one-way walk will take about 15 minutes.
