Ultimate half-day hiking guide to Geisler Alm in Dolomites

One of the most Instagrammed places in the Dolomites. Rifugio Delle Odle is a mountain hut with a restaurant, located in the Puez-Geisler National Park in an alpine meadow surrounded by mountain peaks.

I had a beautiful trip around South Tyrol. Follow this link to check other locations that we visited: The most interesting and beautiful places in Seiser Alm – Alpe di Siusi.

The hut is famous for its wooden sunbeds overlooking the mountain range. In the restaurant itself, it was called a “cinema”. You lie and watch how the views change.

This location is ideal for an active family holiday for half a day. First you need to walk to the hut for 1.5 hours, spend some time here, have lunch, and go back. On the territory there is a playground, a rope park and a paddock with animals.

In this article I will tell you in detail how to get to the hut and what to do there.

⏰ The duration of the hike is 1.5 hours one way.
✅ Difficulty level is easy. You have to go uphill, but even children can handle it.

How to get to Geisler Alm?

First you need to come to the Zans parking lot. In the navigator, point to Parcheggio Malga Zannes (or Zans). Entrance to the parking lot costs 6 euros (per day).

Then follow trail number 36 towards Geisler Alm Riff Delle Odle. The first 45 minutes you will be walking uphill.

Then you will enter the Glatsch Alm. From there, turn left towards the mountain range.

Then the trail will go through the forest with a view of the mountains. At any fork, take the path to Geisler Alm. The trail number will change from time to time (36 / 35 / 36 a).

In another 50 minutes you will be there.

Geisler Alm is a restaurant offering a menu of Tyrolean cuisine. The hut itself is very cute with lots of wooden details and a cozy interior inside.

Here is a link to the restaurant’s website. You can check the opening hours and menu here.

Hot food there is not very tasty (but we recommend desserts, especially Kaisershman).

If you take a snack from the hotel with you, you can have a picnic with a view. By the way, one of the peaks you see is not less but a Seceda mountain. And I really recommend you to spend another day and get to the top. Follow this link to read my ultimate guide of Seceda mountain hiking.

You can return back along the same route, or along a new path. In this case, follow the path 34 in the direction of Zans. The first 50 minutes you will follow the car trail.

Until you see a wooden house with a lake. There turn right onto trail 34B and then you will go through the forest for the last 20 minutes.

If you are looking for other beautiful hikes in South Tyrol, I highly recommend you to do the hike to Lago di Sorapis. Following this link you may find a complete guide to this hike.
